We need to cultivate our garden
It's the starting point for everything: flowers. Flowers, like fruit and vegetables, can be found everywhere and in every season. And yet, a plant's bloom cannot be permanent. It was from this simple observation that the idea of growing your own flowers was born...
September 2023
In September 2023, work began on refurbishing a greenhouse that had been unused for several years. The greenhouse is located in Pézilla la Rivière, near Perpignan. This village has a long tradition of horticulture, which suggested that the land was suitable for growing flowers. The hoops have been installed, but the tarpaulin has disappeared, damaged by the passage of time. The location of this greenhouse means that it is relatively sheltered by the surrounding vegetation, which protects it from the wind, while letting in the sunlight necessary for plant growth. We decided not to re-clad it.
The flowers
The standardization of commercially-available flower varieties has prompted the Daphné project to extend to the planting of less common varieties, with different bud shapes, different colors and, by necessity, a re-learning of the seasons in which plants bloom.
For the first season, these will be irises, narcissi, tulips and ranunculus.
The stages
Unused for several years, nature had reclaimed its rightful place in the greenhouse. The oak shoots had to be removed with a chainsaw. Once cleaned up, the greenhouse was ready for a tractor to turn over, aerate and weed the soil. Then it's time to create the trenches... by hand. At the same time, the flower bulbs and seedlings are prepared. All that remains is to plant.
Come spring to admire the beautiful colors of the garden's tulips, ranunculus, narcissi and irises...
